The Hebron House of Refuge was founded in the year 2000 to bring hope to the children of Sierra Leone. The mission is to construct a planned Christian, child-centered community to meet the needs of orphans, street children, extremely poor and traumatized children and youth of Sierra Leone. The goal is to create a place where they will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and develop an intimate relationship with him. We started with 50 children. Thirty-three of those children stayed in our program for four years. July 17th marks their graduation from their Community Bible School These are our first graduates! Here is a story of two of our graduates: Alusine and Hassan (twins).

Alusine witnessed the brutal murder of both parents at the hands of the rebel. His father was stabbed and shot through the head and his mother was tied, raped, and killed by four rebel soldiers. All this occurred in Alusine?s presence. He was eventually dumped by the rebels in an old dry well to die. By God?s grace, he was rescued by a Civil Defense Fighter, who took him to the nearest hospital. His brother, Hassan managed to escape the attack. On his way back to look for his family, he stumbled on the gruesome sight of his murdered parents, with his mother still pegged to the ground. Needless to say both boys suffered tremendous trauma.

But there is hope! They found this hope through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Both boys are now saved and thriving Christians on fire for the Lord. Let me share their enthusiasm with you. The public schools in Freetown are now demanding that all children must attend Saturday classes for a fee. Our Bible schools only provide services for the children on Saturdays. This has caused a tremendous conflict for some of our kids. But not for the twins! They found a way around this conflict. They show up at their public schools and stay for an hour and then dash over to the Bible school in their community for the rest of the day! Such dedication is truly amazing ? rather than give up, they have pressed on!
